Scholarships

The Texas State Alumni Association awards more than $250,000 in scholarships and university support every year. The funds that support those awards are raised entirely by the Alumni Association through membership donations, event proceeds and gifts. The recipients of the Association's scholarships are referred to as Alumni Scholars.

Designed to encourage the retention of students, Association scholarships are not awarded to incoming freshmen, but they are encouraged to apply after their first semester to receive the scholarship as a sophomore. Students will need to reapply for the scholarship each year.

About Alumni Association Scholarships:

90% of the funding is used for scholarships with the following criteria:

•  80% to students who have a family member that has attended SWT or Texas State (parent, grandparent, sibling, etc.)
•  10% of the money to first-generation students

The recipient must meet the following requirements:

• Minimum admission requirements
• Maintain a 2.5 GPA
• Average 12 hours/semester or 24 hours/year

The scholarship recipient will be awarded $1,500 per year.

 
The remaining 10% of the money is allocated for students with emergencies. The recipients will be chosen at the discretion of the director of Student Financial Aid. Cap for the award is $500. The student must be on the sophomore level or higher and have a 2.5 GPA. They cannot already have an alumni association scholarship.

If the application pool exceeds the number of scholarship available, extra-curricular activities will be used to further qualify the applicant. These scholarships do not have to be need based.

To apply for an alumni association scholarship, please complete Texas State's General Scholarship Application. The form will ask if the applicant has any alumni in their family.
